Scotland's Paralympic heroes return home today (31 October) after Great Britain's most successful Games ever. It completes an incredible Olympic year for British athletes, Team GB had their most successful Olympics since 1920 and in the Paralympics Great Britain finished 2nd in the medal table with a record 41 gold, 43 silver and 47 bronze medals.
Following the successes of Scottish athletes at the Olympics, where Scots won 9 medals, Scottish Paralympic athletes clinched 8 gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze medals, surpassing their medal total of 25 from the 1996 Games.
Ian Robson, Chief Executive of sportscotland said: "For the last few weeks the public have been captivated by the marvellous performances from our Olympians and Paralympians in Sydney.
"Thanks to lottery funding the athletes are now able to train full-time and the results are a fine tribute to the tireless dedication and drive they demonstrate not only in competition but throughout the year.
"As lottery funding continues to make an impact and the newly formed Scottish Institute of Sport begins to harness our sporting talent, we are now in a position to produce more and more world class athletes for years to come."
