Scottish Swimming has achieved a UK first. It is the first governing body of sport in the UK to be awarded registration of Quest Sports Development, the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure.
"This award recognises the professional structure and management approach of Scottish Swimming."
Quest is the premier quality scheme for the management of sport and leisure facilities and for sports development in the UK.
It defines industry standards and good practice and encourages their application and development in a customer-focused management framework. Quest is endorsed by the four home country sports councils including sportscotland and is supported by a wide range of industry organisations.
Scottish Swimming was one of four pilot organisations invited by sportscotland to use the new Quest Sports Development standards in Scotland but the only governing body of the group. With the other organisations - Aberdeenshire Council, North Lanarkshire Council and Edinburgh Leisure - it opened itself up to a self-assessment of its performance followed by a rigorous independent assessment.
Commenting on the Scottish Swimming's achievement Ian Robson, Chief Executive of sportscotland said: "This award recognises the professional structure and management approach of Scottish Swimming."
"If Scotland is to be a leading sporting nation, our governing bodies need to adopt a professional approach which will put sport at the forefront of society."
Paul Bush, Chief Executive of Scottish Swimming, commented, "We are delighted to have achieved Quest status, it reflects the hard work of everyone in our sport and in particular our professional staff and volunteers. As a continuous assessment tool it provides us with a clear agenda for our future development."
