sportscotland is delighted to announce annual investment of £105,000 for 2007 in the sport of shinty through the Camanachd Association.
The investment, of which £30,000 comes from the sportscotland Lottery Fund, will go towards organisational development, coaching, player improvement, club development and volunteering.
The Camanachd Association is entering an extremely exciting and challenging time for the sport both on and off the field. Gill McDonald has recently been appointed as the new chief executive; the Association has relocated to Inverness and September will see the staging of the 100th Scottish Hydro Electric Camanachd Cup Final.
Over the next 12 months the Camanachd Association will focus on increasing participation in shinty at all levels and improving the support and encouragement given to the many people who give of their time to develop the sport on and off the pitch across Scotland.
The Camanachd Association are also undertaking substantial research within the sport to give them a better understanding of the numbers participating and the needs of current players and clubs.

Gill McDonald the Camanachd Association’s Chief Executive said: “We are delighted to continue to receive the support of sportscotland in taking forward the many initiatives and developments that the Camanachd Association is committed to leading, particularly in relation to referee and coaching development.
“We are obviously keen to increase participation in shinty across Scotland and ensure that shinty as a sport becomes more widely recognised, in the year in which we celebrate an historic milestone - 100 years of the Camanachd Cup. “
- The £105,000 investment is made up of £30,000 from the sportscotland Lottery Fund and £75,000 from sportscotland Exchequer funding from the Scottish Executive.
- The Scottish Hydro Electric Camanachd Cup Final will take place at Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 22September 2007.
