Body Text

Friday 9 March 2007

Scotland enjoys outstanding natural resources, which for a number of sports creates the perfect ‘green gymnasium’. sportscotland is delighted to announce annual investment for three sports that make good use of everything the great outdoors has to offer.

triathlonscotland will receive £165,000 for 2007 with their main focus being the development of a clear player pathway from grassroots to Olympic level. They will also be supporting a number of Scotland’s top athletes, including Ritchie Nicholls, Catriona Morrison, Kerry Lang and Fraser Cartmell in preparation for the season’s main competitions.

£56,000 goes to the Scottish Orienteering Association who has plans to grow the organisation and to support a strong club structure to provide more local, regional and national opportunities to take part in the sport.

Waterskiscotland will benefit from £39,500 of sportscotland investment, enabling them to provide crucial support to Scotland’s top waterskiers Jaki Hunter, Nicole Arthur and Sam Haslam as they prepare and compete in World and European competitions.

Julia Bracewell OBE, Chair sportscotland said: “sportscotland invests in 60 governing bodies covering a multitude of different sports. Today’s investment in triathlon, orienteering and waterskiing is a great example of the diverse range of sports we support, in our bid to increase participation and improve the performance of our athletes aspiring to the highest level.”

  • The £165,000 investment in Triathlon Scotland is made up of £120,000 from the sportscotland Lottery Fund and £45,000 from sportscotland Exchequer funding from the Scottish Executive.
