The sportscotland Lottery Fund's newest programme, Social Inclusion Partnerships (SIPs), awards today total over £1M with the announcement of funding for another 15 projects in Scotland's most deprived areas. The Christmas Eve awards include the announcement of £124,998 to Glasgow City Council to support the Greater Easterhouse SIP Sports Programme and £113,000 for East Ayrshire Council's New Sporting Futures initiative, which is part of the East Ayrshire Coalfield Area SIP.

The physical health of Scotland's youth has been headline news for all the wrong reasons recently, but it has been a primary concern of the sportscotland Lottery Fund for many years now. That commitment to making children more active, more often, continues today with the announcement of an over £0.5M investment to introduce the TOP Sport and TOP Play programmes in three local authorities - Falkirk, Highland and Aberdeenshire. At this summer's Commonwealth Games in Manchester Scottish swimmers haul of five medals meant they had their most successful Games performance since 1974 in Christchurch, New Zealand. Alison Sheppard won gold in the 50m freestyle and bronze in the 50m butterfly. Graeme Smith won silver in 1500m freestyle and bronze 400m freestyle and Gregor Tait took silver in the 200m backstroke.
