sportscotland announces interim relocation

Body Text

Thursday 17 July 2008

Today, sportscotland Chief Executive, Stewart Harris, announced that plans were well on track for the organisation’s move to Glasgow’s East End. This will see the implementation of the decision made by the Minister for Communities and Sport, Stewart Maxwell MSP in his announcement last January, following the sportscotland review.

sportscotland will be based at Templeton Business Centre, Doges, Glasgow Green for an interim period, until the completion of its permanent new headquarters on the site of the National Indoor Sports Arena and Velodrome. sportscotland will take over the new accommodation in November 2008 and it is anticipated that the interim move will be completed by April 2009.

The interim location has the benefit of being close to the permanent headquarters, allowing staff to experience the area they will be working in for the long-term and allowing them to establish new travel plans. It also meets the underlying principles of contributing to the regeneration of the East End.

Stewart Maxwell, Minister for Communities and Sport, said:

“I am delighted sportscotland will be moving to the Templeton Business Centre later this year. This accelerates the regeneration of the area and crucially gives the organisation and the staff the opportunity to work at the very heart of sport development as we all prepare for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.’
Commenting, Stewart Harris said: “We have been working very hard over the last few months to find the right interim solution for the organisation as part of our overall relocation strategy.

“We are very pleased with the facilities offered at Templeton Business Centre and feel it will be the ideal location during this transition phase, within touching distance of the new National Indoor Arena and Velodrome.

“We look forward to working closely with Glasgow City Council on our permanent HQ, and are excited about the prospect of sportscotland, as the national agency, being at the heart of Glasgow’s wonderful new sporting infrastructure that will showcase the Commonwealth Games in 2014.”
