sportscotland appoints new senior staff

Body Text

Wednesday 17 September 2008

As sportscotland starts to implement plans for its relocation to Glasgow later this year, Chief Executive Stewart Harris announced today two new members of staff who will take up key senior roles within the organisation.

Following the successful merger with the Scottish Institute of Sport earlier this year, Mike Whittingham is confirmed as Director of High Performance.

He was joined this week by Stuart Ogg as the new Director of Corporate Services. Stuart was formerly Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley, an organisation where he has held a number of senior management roles since 1991.

On 29 September Mike Roberts, well known to many in sport as Chief Executive of Scottish Gymnastics for the last five years, will take up the position of Director of Sport Development.

All three directors will report directly to the Chief Executive and support him and Chair Louise Martin CBE in the change management of the organisation at this exciting time for Scottish sport.

Welcoming the new members of the team, Stewart Harris said: “I am delighted that we now have our senior management team in place and I look forward to working with them all to ensure sportscotland has a successful move to Glasgow over the next six months.

“It is vital that we have a strong team driving the organisation and that we continue to work even more effectively with all our partners in Scottish sport to deliver a legacy from the exciting opportunities that the UK and Scotland has through hosting the 2012 Olympic Games and in particular the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.”

• The sportscotland HQ will be based at Templeton Business Centre, Doges, Glasgow Green for an interim period, until the completion of its permanent new headquarters on the site of the National Indoor Sports Arena and Velodrome.
sportscotland will take over the new accommodation in November 2008 and it is anticipated that the interim move will be completed by April 2009.
