Ally does the honours for local club
Thursday 27 April 2000
Members of Langlands Golf Club in East Kilbride will tomorrow see their new clubhouse finally opened by ex-Scotland football ace and TV personality Ally McCoist.
The brand new facility was made possible with the help of an award of £161,482 from sportscotland Lottery Fund and replaced an old B-listed building that was inadequate for the needs of the Club. The clubhouse will provide a purpose built facility to benefit both members and day members.
A busy, community based Club, Langlands Golf Club is keen to broaden its membership against all sections and the clubhouse will offer the opportunity to do this. The building will also allow the club to extend their, previously limited, winter programme, catering for indoor activities such as indoor bowls, dance and aerobics classes.
Allan Alstead, Chief Executive of sportscotland, said: “Golf is one of the most popular sports in Scotland and its popularity is also increasing among young people. If we are to build on this it is vital that we create quality facilities to encourage even more people to become physically active through sport.”
- The official opening ceremony of Langlands Golf Club will take place on Friday 28 April 2000 at 3pm, at Langlands Golf Club , Auldhouse Road, East Kilbride.
