A multi-tude of opportunity for Guildtown community
Wednesday 5th September 2001
Members of Guildtown Hall Paying Fields Association are celebrating the end of construction work on a Lottery Funded project to build a synthetic grass multi-court.
"This facility creates a great opportunity to promote sport in both Guildtown and the local community."
Made possible with the help of £31,000 from the sportscotland Lottery Fund, the new multi–use games area will enable the community and the local primary school to participate in a variety of sports such as tennis, basketball, netball and hockey.
The Guildtown Hall Association are specifically targeting younger children, through youth coaching sessions and being actively involved in a sporting community encouraging them to become life-long players.
Kenneth J Darling, Lord Dean of Guild, will carry out the official ribbon and cake cutting ceremony. The pitch will then be christened by a floodlit u12 football training session.
Jack Welch, Volunteer Project Co-ordinator, said: “This facility creates a great opportunity to promote sport in both Guildtown and the local community. I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and dedication which has made this opening a reality.”
Alastair Dempster, Chairman of sportscotland said: “This project is a credit not only to the main contractors but to the local community’s efforts. The multi-court will promote a positive attitude towards sport which we at sportscotland encourage and support.
“The promotion of physical activities through which the young develop their skills in a fun and enjoyable environment and gain a sense of achievement in the process, is very important as these experiences can influence lifelong habits.”
- The opening ceremony will take place at Guildtown Playing Fields, Guildtown, Perth on Wednesday 5 September at 7.15pm.
- Kenneth J Darling, Lord Dean of Guild, will perform the official opening. A football training session will take place to christen the pitch followed by refreshments and a cake cutting ceremony.
