Cruden Bay, a small but rapidly expanding coastal village in Aberdeenshire is celebrating the completion of their new pavilion and changing facility at Cruden Bay Recreation Park, which was constructed with the support of over £61,000 from the sportscotland Lottery Fund. An official opening ceremony will take place on Saturday 12 January, and members of the public will be invited to come along and see the improvements in the afternoon.
The park now has modernised changing and shower rooms, disabled access and facilities and a kitchen and clubroom. The pavilion has been designed to accommodate more than one user group, which is just as well as several different sporting clubs including football, tennis and hockey teams will be utilising the facilities. There will also be an over 30s fitness group, mothers and toddlers groups, a coaching clinic and a young persons drop in centre.
Mr Ray Thomson, Chairman of Cruden Bay Recreation Park said: "The completion of this project is an asset for Cruden Bay and surrounding areas. It is a great boost for the people of this rural community, and we are very proud of all that it offers. Already great local interest has been received and we look forward to the many opportunities this facility will provide."
Alastair Dempster, Chairman of sportscotland, said: "sportscotland is committed to promoting and developing sport at grassroots level in local communities by ensuring they have quality facilities offering a variety of sports to people of all ages and back grounds.
"The new facilities at Cruden Bay will do just that and I am delighted the sportscotland lottery fund was instrumental in improving sporting opportunities for the village."
