BP National Schools Football Day

Monday 30 May 2003

The third annual BP National Schools Football Day will take place at the Almondvale Stadium, Livingston on Sunday 1 June, with 14 primary aged teams participating in a small sided festival of friendly games and 14 secondary school teams taking part in a tournament based 7-a-side competition, with each team having won their regional competition to progress to this stage.

The BP National Schools Football Day is part of the BP Tourfest Programme which is sponsored by BP, who this year contributed £50,000 of support. The Programme is organised by sportscotland in partnership with local authorities and 12 national governing bodies of sport including disability sport. By reaching communities throughout Scotland it aims to tackle the issue of social inclusion, while promoting the benefits sport can bring in terms of health and education.

Harry MacMillan, Vice President Government & Public Affairs, BP Scotland, said:

“BP has been a longstanding supporter of the promotion and development of sporting opportunities for young people throughout Scotland. BP TOURFEST is our flagship programme and we are delighted to be working in partnership with sportscotland, the Scottish governing bodies of sport and local authorities.”

Nicky Grant, sportscotland Youth Development Manager said:

“I would like to express my gratitude to all who are helping to progress football for schoolgirls in Scotland, especially the teachers who give up their invaluable spare time to make the activities work. Today is an opportunity to sit back and enjoy the work of the last year and a chance for all to see the Cup finalists of the future.”
