Family Fun for Ayr North
Thursday 13 May 2004
The Ayr North Sports Initiative is delighted to invite families from Ayr North to join them to celebrate the International Day of Families this Saturday (15 May) at the John Pollock Centre Playing Fields. The day is part of a European Union initiative to bring families together and is the only event of its kind happening in Scotland.
The Ayr North Sports Initiative is supported by an award of £33,340 from sportscotland’s Lottery Fund’s Social Inclusion Partnerships (SIPs) programme. SIPs specifically targets social inclusion through funding for enhanced sporting opportunities helping communities develop themselves through sport, physical recreation and healthy lifestyle activities.
The award to Ayr North SIP will provide equipment for young people to participate in physical activity such as street league football, transport costs to participate in sporting events and coaching courses for local volunteers.
There will be many fantastic events for all the family including: free beat the goalie, fancy dress football, free keep fit session, free paintball, live music and lots more for everyone to enjoy. Sandra Osbourne MSP, Councillor Cairns and John Scott MSP will also attend to lend their support.
Commenting on the event, Rab Hill, Targeting Coordinator for Ayr North Sports Initiative, said: “We hope all families within Ayr North take the opportunity to participate in this event and thoroughly enjoy the day.”
Alastair Dempster, Chairman of sportscotland, said: “This is a great opportunity for families to come together as a community and enjoy a range of physical activities and I hope the event is a great success.
- “No community should be denied access to sport as it makes such a valuable contribution to lives both physically and socially. We want to continue working in strategic partnerships to widen sporting opportunities and hopefully this programme will make a difference in areas across Scotland which need it most.”
- The International Day of Families is being held on Saturday 15 May at the John Pollock Centre Playing Fields, Main Holme Rd, Ayr from 12pm - 4pm.
- Eligible organisations may apply for one award towards a single project or for several awards for separate, stand-alone projects. The minimum cost of a project is £5,550 and the minimum award is £5,000 in the absence of other external funds.
- In common with other sportscotland Lottery programmes, the SIPs Programme is application based. The programme has an application period of three years from February 2002 to December 2004 and an implementation period of five years through to December 2006.
- Under the SIPs Programme, every application has to include a level of support from at least one other source. Applicants will need to provide partnership funding of not less than 10% of eligible cost, in cash or in kind.
