Profiles Plus Fitness Suite Official Opening

Dumfries & Galloway Council are pleased to announce the opening of the new build Profiles Plus Fitness Suite at The F.U.N. Pool, Sanquhar.

An official opening of the new facility takes place on Monday 14th June at 11am when local Councillor Jim Dempster and Councillor Neil McKay, Chair of the Mid & Upper Nithsdale Area Committee will perform the ceremony supported by representatives from sportscotland.

The project totalling almost £200,000 has been funded through an award of £123,750 from sportscotland’s Lottery Fund Sports Facilities Programme with match funding of over £70,000 from Dumfries and Galloway Council marking substantial investment in the Mid & Upper Nithsdale area.

This funding commitment has allowed the local authority to progress towards continuous improvement and provide new facilities and develop and upgrade existing facilities as identified within the existing Leisure & Sport Strategy for Dumfries & Galloway.

Richard Grieveson, Operations Manager for Leisure & Sport with Dumfries and Galloway Council commented: “Dumfries and Galloway Council are delighted that this project has come to fruition and highlights the successful partnership that exists with sportscotland. The new fitness suite will contribute positively to the health and well being of the local community and allow us to develop proven initiatives such as exercise referrals as well as positively contributing to the targets identified within ‘Sport 21’ the National Strategy for sport and ‘Lets Make Scotland More Active’ the national strategy for physical activity.”

Alastair Dempster, Chairman of sportscotland added, “We are delighted to support the new fitness suite at Sanquhar F.U.N. Pool with an award of £123,750 from sportscotland’s Lottery Fund Sports Facilities Programme. This addition to the existing facilities is sure to encourage more people from the wider community to get involved in sport and physical activity.

“This project demonstrates how through close partnership working we can channel our resources towards delivering the best possible sporting opportunities for local communities, helping to create a healthier, more active Scotland.”

The fitness suite comprises of 18 pieces of Matrix equipment, supplied by Johnson Powerhouse which is some of the latest in bio-mechanical and aesthetic design within the fitness industry and is made up of 11 cardio-vascular pieces and 7 strength and resistance pieces. To complement the equipment the fitness suite also offers satellite television and air conditioning.

Inductions are currently underway at the Fun Pool and the team of qualified staff are on hand to answer all your queries and cater for your first step towards a healthier lifestyle. On completion of your induction the Profiles Plus fitness team can provide your very own individual exercise programme.
