Shortlist announced for Scotland's Sport Sponsorship Awards 2004

Tuesday 24 February 2004

Ian Robson, Chief Executive of sportscotland and Chair of the Judging Panel today announced the shortlist of sports organisations and businesses who have been nominated in the search for Scotland's top sports sponsorships.

The Scottish Sport Sponsorship Awards were launched by sportscotland in 2001 to recognise excellence and creativity across Scotland’s vibrant sport sponsorship scene. The Awards also recognise the enormous contribution that a sponsor’s investment can make to a sport.

Nearly 100 entries were received from businesses and sports organisations throughout the country for an award in one of eight categories that reflect the diverse range of sport sponsorships at work in Scotland. These range from best sponsorship of young people in Scottish sport to sponsorships in excess of £100,000.

The eight category winners will then be considered for the overall Scottish Sport Sponsorship of the Year Award 2004.
There is a new category for 2004, the Scottish Sport Sponsorship Personality of the Year Award. This person will be chosen by the judges from the nominations received and is likely to be working in sport, business or an agency and has made a significant contribution to the Scottish sport sponsorship industry during 2003.

Ian Robson, Chief Executive of sportscotland said: "The awards seek to recognise the important role business sponsorship plays in Scottish sport and by spotlighting good practice we hope to encourage even more to get involved.

" The standard of entries was extremely high and clearly demonstrate the range of exciting partnerships that are being developed between sport and businesses. We look forward to announcing the winners at the Scottish Business in Sport Dinner."

The Scottish Business in Sport Dinner will be held at the Hilton Hotel, Glasgow on Tuesday 23 March 2004. The evening will recognise the best in sport sponsorship in Scotland and demonstrate how sponsorship is good for business as well as sport. Matthew Pinsent CBE, the triple Olympic gold medallist will be the evening’s guest speaker.
