Beauly Camanachd celebrate with new pavillion

Tuesday 29 November 2005

Beauly Camanachd Club will be celebrating this Saturday (3 December) with the official opening of their new pavilion at Braeview Park in Beauly.

Supported by an award of £41,053 from the sportscotland Lottery funded Sports Facilities Programme, the Club will benefit from new changing facilities, a referee room, committee room and kitchen.

The opening of the new pavilion sees the realisation of an ambition for the Club, which was first talked about over 30 years ago. Previously Braeview Park had lacked modern changing facilities, with the Club using a converted old curling club which was showing signs of deterioration.

The new facility played a large part in the Club winning the North First Division Championship, and has also enabled the club to attract major shinty matches to the area with a Sutherland Cup semi-final between Kingussie and Aberdeen University taking place at Braeview Park.

The new pavilion will also benefit the whole community with local schools, rugby and football clubs using the facility. It has recently been used by a soccer 7s coaching initiative involving over 100 local children, and the annual west to east coast Highland Cross race, which sees over 650 competitors flocking to Beauly, has made use of the improved facilities.

David Calder, President, Beauly Camanachd Club said: "We have been in existence for 113 years and the completion of the new changing facility is a proud day in our history. We are deeply grateful for the tremendous support we have had, not only from sportscotland, Inverness and Nairn Enterprise and Highland Council but also from the local community who have backed us in a most generous way. Braeview Park is one the best pitches in the sport and now we have the facilities to match."

Julia Bracewell OBE Chair of sportscotland said: "sportscotland is delighted to have supported the building of this new pavilion which will see both the club and local community benefit.

"This is another example of sportscotland’s commitment to providing communities across Scotland with quality accessible sports facilities, to ensure that more people have the opportunity to be more active, more often."

  • The official opening of the new pavilion will take place at Beauly Camanachd Club, Braeview Park, Beauly on Saturday 3 December 2005 at 3.30pm.
  • The day’s events will start with two shinty matches, the first at 11.00am with Beauly U14 taking on Strathglass U14; the second at 1.00pm will be the Beauly senior team take on an Inverness Area Select.
  • You and your representatives are invited to attend.
