Wednesday 29 June 2005
With summer finally here in Scotland why not try your hand at sailing at sportscotland’s National Centre Cumbrae Open Day on Saturday 9 July.
Sailing is the most successful Olympic sport in this country and Great Britain is the world's top Olympic sailing nation. The Centre is where famous household names such as Shirley Robertson (twice Olympic Gold medallist), Emma Richards (around the World Yachtswomen) and Stephen Park (Team GBR Olympic coach for sailing) started their sailing careers. These same facilities are available to get you started or develop your current skills. The staff will ensure you get a positive and fun experience afloat.
sportscotland’s National Centre Cumbrae is Scotland’s premier sailing centre. Based on the Island of Cumbrae, opposite Largs it will be open from 10 am – 6pm on Saturday 9 July for free come and try sailing sessions, tours around the Centre and a chance to view some sailing demonstrations. Light refreshments, discounted courses and prize draw will be running all day. Arrive early to avoid disappointment!
The centre is linked to the Scottish Sailing Institute and this partnership creates Scotland’s top training centre. On July 9th the GBR Topper Squad, of which 5 out of the 25 sailors are Scottish, will be training at the centre over the weekend. This team of youth sailors will be receiving top level coaching in the local waters in preparation for the UK Topper National Championships (approximately 200 boats) taking place in Largs between the 7 – 12 August 2005.
