Lottery funding makes a splash in Annan
Thursday 23 June 2005
The Rt. Hon Lord Munro of Langholm will join the people of Annan tomorrow (Friday 24 June), to celebrate the official reopening of the newly refurbished Annan Swimming Pool.
We are delighted to have supported this project with an award of £331,573 from sportscotlands Lottery funded Sports Facilities Programme.
Supported by an award of £331,573 from sportscotlands Lottery funded Sports Facilities Programme, the dated facility has now been transformed, providing brand new changing facilities and reception area with improved disabled access. The pool plant has also been upgraded to improve the water quality and environmental conditions, ensuring that people have the best conditions in which to swim.
The centre provides a wide range of activities including swimming lessons, lifesaving skills, canoeing and water polo and is a recognised Royal Life Saving Society centre for lifeguard qualifications.
The newly refurbished pool will not only benefit the local community, but also the local primary and secondary schools, who will use the facilities as part of their PE curriculum.
Annandale and Eskdale Sports and Leisure Trust hope that the modernised facilities will attract more people to the pool, encouraging them to take part in one of the many activities the centre offers, helping to boost levels of physical activity and improve the health and fitness of the local community.
Ernie Turpie, Chairman, Annandale and Eskdale Sports and Leisure Trust said: The refurbishment of Annan Pool represents a further £150,000 investment by the Leisure Trust, bringing our total investment in facility improvements, to over £1m pounds in the last three years. The refurbishment has also been a very successful example of strategic partnerships; with organisations working together to secure the long-term future of much needed community resources.
The Annandale & Eskdale Sports & Leisure Trust has once again demonstrated its commitment to the improvement of facilities, services and opportunities and we hope that no matter what their ability, members of the community will get years of pleasure, and enjoyment from using the new facility.
Alastair Dempster, Chairman, sportscotland said: We are delighted to have supported this project with an award of £331,573 from sportscotlands Lottery funded Sports Facilities Programme.
Quality swimming facilities play an important role in introducing people of all ages and abilities to the endless hours of enjoyment and fun swimming can provide, encouraging people to participate more as part of a healthy, active lifestyle.
- The official reopening of Annan Pool will take place on Friday 24 June at 12 Noon at Annan Swimming Pool, St Johns Road, Annan, DG12 6AW.
- You and your representative are invited to attend.
