Graham Wardell accepted sportscotland’s Performance Coach of the Year 2010 award on behalf of the late Eileen Adams on Saturday 8 January 2011.
The award was presented by sportscotland’s Chair, Louise Martin CBE during the Scottish National Short Course Championships at Tollcross pool in Glasgow.
The late Eileen Adams was an extraordinary swimming coach and widely regarded as one of Scotland’s best, in any sport, over the past 25 years. An inspirational figure, the Aberdeenshire based coach helped develop the world class talent of swimmers Robbie Renwick (2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist) and David Carry (double 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medallist).
When Eileen sadly lost her battle with cancer on 31 March 2010, her fellow coach Graham Wardell stepped into the void. He led the Glasgow Performance programme and on Saturday, collected the £250 development grant at the request of Eileen’s family.
