sportscotland has published profiles for each of the Sports Governing Bodies (SGBs) that make up the 17 sports for the 2014 Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow.
The information – published for the first time in this format – currently covers the four year period 2007 – 2011, and includes key facts and figures for each sport as well as sportscotland commentary against the areas of governance, development and performance.
The 2011-2015 section includes further commentary and targets and, when investment agreements are completed with individual sports, will be updated to include detail of that level of investment as well as tangible outcomes.
A similar approach will be taken with Olympic/Paralympic sports following the 2012 Games, and other sports will be profiled once appropriate time periods are agreed with their SGBs. sportscotland will continue to develop and improve the level of information it publishes in relation to the decisions it takes.
Chief Executive of sportscotland Stewart Harris said:
“I am delighted to publish, for the first time ever, detailed information about the levels of funding provided to individual sports governing bodies along with the key facts and figures that help us determine appropriate levels of investment. We pledged we would make more information available and today’s publication represents a further step in that process.
“It is important for everyone involved in sport, from participant to spectator, to see that our funding decisions are fully transparent and based upon achievement and potential, not on some notion of entitlement.
“The economic climate is providing challenges for everyone – in sport and elsewhere – but the fact that sportscotland is able to maintain a healthy overall level of investment in governing bodies in 2011-12 reflects the priority that we and the Scottish Government place upon the value of sport.
“And it’s not just financial support that sportscotland offers to governing bodies, we have expert advice and support in areas like high performance, training and development on hand for each governing body to access according to their needs – we are there to help sports flourish and achieve.
“Clearly, every sport has different structures, needs, challenges and opportunities. However it is also right that the funding received by each SGB reflects its contribution to improving sport delivery and development, which will be absolutely crucial to Team Scotland’s performance in 2014 and beyond.
“We look forward to continuing to work with each SGB to deliver success for their sport and for Scotland. ”
