This review of research literature on evaluations of large-scale sport and physical activity programmes was commissioned by sportscotland as part of a larger evaluation of Active Schools. The goals of the review were both general and specific, and the research was to provide a general overview of the state of knowledge and research practice on large-scale evaluations as well as to provide concrete recommendations to inform the design of the Active Schools evaluation.
Annually from 1995 the Council has commissioned survey questions to determine public awareness of and attitudes towards Lottery funding of sport. This digest reports on the results of the survey over the last four years.

sportscotland is shaping its activities to address the needs of sport in Scotland as set out in Sport 21. This strategy for the distribution of the Lottery Fund in Scotland complements what sportscotland is undertaking with its grant-in-aid; the activities of its partners; and the programmes of other Lottery distributors. Further, it takes account of the Government’s priorities of social inclusion, of education and health, especially regarding children and young people: it is levelling the playing field.
