Single Equity Scheme 2010-2012

sportscotland has reviewed its corporate Single Equity Scheme 2006-2009 and developed a new Scheme for 2010-2012.

The new Scheme is a three-year, integrated strategy and action plan for equity across the six key equity strands (gender, disability, race, age, sexual orientation, and religion and belief). Publication of the Scheme is a requirement of the Equality Act 2006, the Disability Discrimination Act 2005, and the Race Relations Amendment Act 2000

Rather than implementing separate schemes for race, gender and disability, sportscotland incorporates all three into a single Scheme. We consider that this better enables us to address our legal responsibilities and develop more effective actions to eliminate discrimination and promote equality of opportunity across all six equity strands. It will also assist us further to promote the mainstreaming of equality outcomes into our strategic planning processes.

The Scheme focuses on three priority areas:

  • Embedding equity throughout sportscotland’s functions and services
  • Leading and supporting our partners in Scottish sport to embed equity throughout their functions and services
  • Taking positive action to address identified areas of inequity in Scottish sport

An action plan has been developed for each priority area, which sets out how we intend to achieve the objectives. The action plan provides key performance indicators (KPIs) for year one (2010) and high-level targets for years two and three (2011-12).

sportscotland intends that the scheme should be a living document and we will review it annually and update where required.
