This report presents the findings of an audit of sport provision in higher education in Scotland undertaken in the spring of 2003. The audit was undertaken by way of a self-completion questionnaire sent to Directors/Heads of sports departments at 13 universities across Scotland that were affiliated to the Scottish Universities Physical Education Association (SUPEA).
This aim of the study was to assist sportscotland to make decisions about the future direction of the School Sport Co-ordinator Programme (SSCP) by collecting information on its impact, various aspects of its operation, and the extent to which School Sport Co-ordinators (SSCs) have been able to fulfil their remit and identify any obstacles to the development of the SSCP.
This study has been designed to update information gathered previously on hall sports, focussing on participation levels and the use of facilities. The original research has been of significant use in the policy making and planning work undertaken by sportscotland but it is now recognised that more current information is needed.
This document sets out the strategy and the targets by which sportscotland will measure themselves over the 2003-2007 period. These targets articulate the contribution sportscotland's investment will make towards the national strategy.
