Coaching Matters

Professional development for performance coaches

sportscotland in partnership with Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence – the University of Stirling – have launched a programme which supports the development of performance coaches in Scotland.

The programme consists of a number of workshops held throughout the year for performance coaches to attend to help them develop their effectiveness and keep up to date with coaching issues.  In its first year, Coaching Matters has delivered 16 workshops for 120 coaches and the learnings from each workshop are being seen throughout the coaching network.

Developing the Coaching Matters concept

Following from the success of the last year, Coaching Matters will add a sport-specific format to its offering.  Eight sports – rugby, athletics, gymnastics, swimming, disability sport, judo, football and golf – will take part. Each governing body will work with the project team to shape a programme aligned to the needs of their sport’s performance coaches. The national, generic programme of workshops will also continue to be further enhanced in year two.
