Community sport

Be it at a club, a gym or a park, the majority of people’s sporting experiences take place within a ‘community’ setting.  Scotland’s clubs and community organisations play a vital role in providing a full and diverse range of sporting opportunities for everyone.

Much of sportscotland’s work is targeted at sport in the community - whether it’s getting pupils more active through Active Schools, funding community facilities through the Building For Sport programme, or working with Governing Bodies on their plans for club development.

This section outlines how sportscotland contributes to sport in the community both directly through its support for clubs and funding programmes, and indirectly through its work with partners in local authorities and governing bodies.

For more information on sport in your area, the best place to start is your local authority.  Visit our contacts section for details.
