Equality Standard for Sport

Equality is an important issue for sport. Sports, their governing bodies, associations and clubs can be employers, associations, voluntary organisations and charities under the current legislation. In each of these categories they may be required to consider how their structure, organisation and behaviour impacts on people with protected characteristics.

The Equality Standard for Sport provides an opportunity for sports to consider equality in all their functions and services. As a minimum investment requirement, all sports are required to have an Equality Policy. All sports are also required to obtain a minimum of the foundation level of the Standard. sportscotland supports Scottish Governing Bodies who are working towards achievements in the Standard.
