In December 2006, sportscotland published its Single Equity Scheme (updated May 2007). This is a three-year strategy and action plan which sets out how sportscotland is working to achieve equity throughout its functions. It covers the key equity strands, with a particular focus on gender, disability and race equity.
Publication of the Scheme is a requirement of the Race Relations Amendment Act 2000 (as amended), the Disability Discrimination Act 2005, and the Equality Act 2006.
The Scheme sets out how sportscotland will fulfil its legislative duties to tackle discrimination and to promote equality between women and men, disabled people and other people, and people from different racial groups. These duties are known respectively as the gender equality duty, the disability equality duty and the race equality duty.
We have produced this Scheme as part of our statutory duty to promote equality, but also because we passionately believe that sport should be open and accessible to all. The actions within our Single Equity Scheme will contribute towards our dual aims of increasing participation and improving performance in Scottish sport.
