Specialist advice and expertise

To facilitate increased participation and improved performance in Scottish sport, Scotland needs a network of Scottish sporting facilities at local, regional and national levels that are accessible, affordable and of high quality.

To help make this goal a reality, sportscotland provides highly specialised expertise on the planning, design, construction and management of sports facilities for the benefit of Scottish sport.  We can offer support at every stage of the facility development process whether we are providing financial assistance or not.  We also undertake project management for capital projects awarded grants from our funding programmes.

This section of the website is split into two categories:

Planning

This section looks at research and advising local authorities, governing bodies and clubs on the planning, development and use of sports facilities as well as planning for sport in the outdoors.

For more information visit the planning section.

Design and construction

This section covers advice on the design,  construction and management of sports facilities and includes a number of publications available for download.

If you are involved in the development of a sporting facility, and would like to seek guidance on issues related to the planning, design, construction or management of the facility, you can contact a member of the Facilities Development team through our contacts page.

For more information visit the design and construction section.
