Fit for Girls: Monitoring and evaluation

The programme will be monitored to assess the impact on participation levels of secondary school girls in PE, physical activity and sport against the above KPIs.

The Fit for Girls programme emphasises the importance of consulting girls, working with them to establish reasons for disengagement and developing strategies to enhance future participation. The principles of respect, empowerment and participation are inherent of the programme. Girls who are currently inactive or have low levels of participation are encouraged to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas in a real and honest way.

Monitoring and evaluation will be conducted using both quantitative and qualitative techniques. The research will attempt to:

  • understand the broader context of young womens’ lives
  • understand the place and meaning they give to physical activity
  • track changes in their feelings, attitudes and experiences as they participate in the Fit for Girls programme.

Schools will be required to provide regular feedback which will be collected via questionnaires and through data already submitted as part of sportscotland’s monitoring of Active Schools. Case studies and good practice examples will be collected on an ongoing basis throughout the period of the programme.
