Funding for facilities

sportscotland’s main funding stream for sports facilities is the Sports Facilities Fund.

The Sports Facilities Fund covers the provision or upgrading of all facilities for the general community.  In the main, proposals will be led by local authorities, clubs, trusts and the like.  Applicants need to demonstrate that the proposed development is for the public good and will provide equitable opportunities for increased sports participation by the community at local level.

Applicants will also need to demonstrate what links they have established/will establish with the sports programmes and/or initiatives operated by the local authority, national governing body for sport and their associates/partners.

For more information visit the Sports Facilities Fund section.

Other sources of funding for sports facilities:

Awards for All – provides grants of between £500 and £10,000 to not-for-profit groups, parishes or town councils, schools and health bodies.  This scheme funds a broad range of projects and activities, including small improvements to premises.

For more information visit the Awards for All website.

Local authorities - many local authorities have an active programme to encourage and develop sporting activities - both recreational and competitive - in their area.  There is often a particular focus on developing sporting activities as part of a wider social inclusion policy.  Visit our contacts section for a list of local authorities in Scotland.
