Sports Partnerships

Sports Partnerships help identified local authority, governing body and further education partners work together to improve opportunities for people to take part and progress in sports in their area. They co-ordinate and facilitate local and regional sports programmes and activities, making sure they are integrated with the governing body plan for the sport.

They focus on:

  • strengthening clubs through increased support and development,
  • providing better training and support to coaches, officials and volunteers, and
  • providing better access to facilities,
  • raising the standard of athlete entering Area Institute or National Performance programmes.

sportscotland is currently running a pilot programme up to 2010 to establish the effectiveness of the Sports Partnerships approach. We have two pilot Sports Partnerships currently running in the Tayside & Fife and Central regions.

For more details on Sports Partnerships read our Information Sheet. Alternatively, log on to the Sport Central or Sport Tayside & Fife websites for a better idea of how the pilots are working in practice.
