Sporting Champions

Body Text

We all had our childhood heroes, people we admired and want to emulate. Our sports stars of today can be a major influence on our young people and help inspire our heroes of tomorrow.

The Sporting champions scheme sees our top stars visit schools and encourage young people to participate in sport and adopt healthy, active lifestyles.

Not everyone has the ability to make it to the top but giving our young people an insight into the lifestyle of our top athletes can encourage them to make positive life choices.

Champions are involved in a range of activities, including:

  • Visits to primary, secondary and special schools
  • Presentation of cups, certificates and badges
  • Speaking at schools assemblies and to small groups of youngsters about their experiences and life choice they have made
  • Coaching groups of young people, passing on their knowledge and enthusiasm

Although the scheme uses prominent personalities who have been successful in their sport, it focuses on sport participation rather than sporting excellence.
