Bob Torrance - Wilson

The golf facility has been in use since 1984. Since May 2009 the facility was officially renamed the Bob Torrance School of Golf by Mr Torrance himself. It has a fantastic outlook across the Firth of Clyde to the Isles of Bute and Cumbrae and over the mountains of Arran.

Teaching Bay

Golf Facility

The facility offers four different practice holes, a large putting green, an artificial putting surface, driving bays as well as floodlit coaching bays, a new members area and the new professional teaching bay with state-of-the-art video analysis equipment.

Golf Bays

This unique facility operates as a practice area and not as a playing course. Different users and groups can take advantage of this facility by becoming an annual member, purchasing a day pass, booking the facility for group training sessions or by booking on to the many lessons on offer below.

Indoor/outdoor junior group lessons with clubgolf Level 1 sportscotland staff, individual lessons, junior/adult group lessons, floodlit lessons, tuition breaks and if required tailor-made packages for four or more players, all coached by centre authorised PGA Professionals.

Once your lesson has come to an end and should you wish to continue to practice please purchase a day pass, become a member or leave the facility.

Users should provide their own equipment when using the practice facility however clubs and balls are provided if taking part in lessons.

One of the great advantages of this facility is that there are no tee off times, arrive at your leisure and practice for as long as you need. The facility is open (weather permitting) all year round.

Golf Facility

There is plenty of car parking spaces located close to the facility and information notice boards are positioned detailing events and user groups usage.

A patrolling service is in operation for unauthorised users.

The facility does not provide a collection service for balls at the moment.

Residential Information

The centre not only provides a unique golfing facility but can also offer accommodation and meals, after practising or playing the local courses.

Areas - Suggested practice usage

Area 1

This area is to be used to practice the 'short game'. There is a double green for putting and a large bunker for sand shots. Around the immediate fringes there are suitable areas for chipping and to the right of the green longer pitching shots can be practiced.

Area 2

The Driving Bays are used for driving and for fairway woods. Yardage markers are positioned in front of the bays to indicate distance.

Area 3

This area, on the right of the Driving Bays, can be used to practice the middle and short irons (5-9 irons).

Area 4

This area, situated on the west of the facility, can be used for long and middle irons (1-5), as well as fairway woods. There is adequate space available and the raised green in the corner beyond the bunker is the target.

Area 5

This area is situated in the middle of the course and is ideally suited for middle to short irons (5-7), hitting to a sloping green, which is protected by two bunkers.

Area 6

This area to the left of the Pro Bays is suitable for practicing with long irons and utility clubs.
