Sports journalism encompasses all types of reportage and media coverage of current events in the world of sport.
All forms of media are included:
- press and magazines
- television
- radio and electronic media
And all the various disciplines practised:
- writing
- commentary
- reporting
- interviewing
- photography
Sports journalism is highly specialised and requires specialist knowledge, but the disciplines and practices employed by a sports journalist do not differ greatly from those of a standard journalist.
It is hardly surprising that the route into working in sports journalism is the same as that of any other form of journalism: training takes place either on site (most usually on a local newspaper) or through a formal course.
