sportscotland Board Member appointments
This is an exciting time to be involved in Scottish sport. With Glasgow's successful bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and London having hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012, we have a unique opportunity for the development of sport to benefit the people of Scotland.
sportscotland - the National Agency for sport in Scotland covering all aspects of sport and physical activity from grass roots participation through to support for elite athletes - is looking for up to three new members to join its Board, one of which is a specialist role.
As a non-executive member of the Board you will be expected to support the Chair in ensuring delivery of Scottish Ministers’ objectives for sport. This will involve contributing to the corporate planning process, supporting executives in their leadership of the business, and the monitoring of performance and funding decisions. As such, these roles are as challenging as they are rewarding – and you will be offered the training you’ll need to excel.
We are keen to receive applications from anyone with a keen interest in sport, and an understanding of the ways in which women interact with sport and the particular impacts of sport on females in Scotland.
Specifically, with regard to the specialist role we are keen to receive applications from anyone with a background and experience in finance, audit, and risk management.
You will live or have your main place of work in Scotland, and must be able to demonstrate a number of skills, including the ability to think strategically, analyse and review information, express a view informed by your analysis and challenge constructively within a Board or team setting.
Fees and allowances:
A fee of £158 (non-pensionable) is payable for each day devoted to Board business. You will also receive reimbursement for all reasonable travel and subsistence costs and any dependant-carer expenses incurred whilst undertaking Board duties.
Time commitment:
You will be expected to commit to attending 6-8 board meetings per year, which occasionally may involve some work during the evenings and weekends. For each of these meetings, Board members are remunerated for one and a half days, which provides for a half day for reading documents. You should also demonstrate an adequate degree of flexibility to attend at a greater frequency in order to contribute to other business as appropriate, for example serving on any of the Board’s committees. On average, the total time commitment required will be around 16 days per year.
Appointment details:
The appointment will be for up to 4 years, with the possibility of re-appointment for a further period up to 4 years subject to evidence of effective performance and to satisfying the requirements of the person specification for the role at the time of re-appointment.
Location:
Meetings for the Board will normally be held alternately between Glasgow and Edinburgh, but may on occasion be held elsewhere around Scotland.
Further information:
If you would like an informal chat with the Chair, you are welcome to contact Louise Martin, by calling Shona Kinniburgh, Personal Assistant to the Board Chair, on 0141 534 6509.
If you are looking for a challenging, rewarding and worthwhile opportunity, we would like to hear from you. Applications are invited from a wide range of people who have an interest in public service and are committed to promoting sport in Scotland.
Full details of the criteria to be met for the position are contained in the person specification, which forms part of the application pack. Also included in the pack is more detailed information about sportscotland.
