Sport First 10: Spring 2013
This edition is themed around women in sport, exploring gender inequality and looking at some of the good work going on around the country to address it. We are delighted to have an interview with Toni Minichiello – coach to Britain’s most iconic female athlete Jessica Ennis - on how he kept Jess on track throughout her career from young aspiring athlete to gold medal winner at London 2012. We explore the theme further with an article from Sue Robson, Head of Physiology at the sportscotland institute of sport, on an innovative new project focused on the prominent issue of amenorrhea in female athletes. We also profile the work of our strength and conditioning coaches with the Scotland women’s football team.
On a separate note, take a look at how sportscotland is using Glasgow 2014 to accelerate plans to develop a world class sporting system at every level. We also feature news from Commonwealth Games Scotland on the “Go Scotland!” campaign to raise awareness of the 17 sports that will be involved in the Games, and profile our athletes hoping to make it onto team Scotland.
