Club Coach - Strathaven RFC

Strathaven RFC, in South Lanarkshire, is seeking a new coach for our senior section in order to continue its growth and development. Founded in 1984 Strathaven RFC is a community club run by volunteers with our own newly refurbished club house, 3G rugby ready pitch and grounds all maintained by the clubs membership. In addition, we have recently received planning permission for an indoor training facility which we are in the process of fundraising for which will be a great addition to our region leading facilities. As a club we have two senior squads with a pool of 60 players, a senior women’s squad, under 18s boys and girls squads, an under 16’s squad, u15’s squad, S1/S2 squad and teams throughout the primary age groups all children and adults from the broad local community. Our 1XV squad play in the West Region Division 1 with our 2XV playing in West Reserve League Division 2.

The club is looking for a coach who is seeking to develop their own coaching career with a young and energetic senior team, enabling them to grow their experience and skills and take this team to new heights. The role will be supported by an existing member who will take on match day management of our 2XV.

The role will involve the following responsibilities, however, will not be limited to the same;

  • Coaching of the senior squad including match days and two training sessions per week
  • To work closely with and deploy effectively any supporting resource made available to you.
  • Analyse participant’s current and potential performance needs and aspirations. This will be assisted by the clubs VEO match analysis camera.
  • Implementing necessary coaching and assistance to achieve goals.
  • Improving attendance across the board at training and club events continuing to work with the committee to maintain our excellent social side of the club.
  • Plan a coaching programme according to needs of our players.
  • Manage a safe and effective coaching plan ensuring discipline is instilled in all players in line with the IRB’s code of conduct.
  • Assist with the implementations of Strathaven RFC’s “Rugby for All” and “One Club” ethos.
  • Help to ensure involvement of senior players at minis and midis training, games and club events.
  • Management of scrums system for submission of match day team sheets, injury reports etc.
  • Supporting the committee with squad fundraising & securing sponsorship agreements.

As a coach you will be qualified to a minimum of UKCC Level two with a proven track record of coaching at various age grades and levels and be willing to undertake PVG checks. In return for the above Strathaven RFC will provide:

  • Financial recognition / package inclusive of expenses subject to experience.
  • Be provided with Strathaven RFC branded training clothing.
  • Potential for funded UKCC Level 3 coaching qualification in second year with the club.

In addition to the above the continued professional development (CPD) of our coaches is highly important to Strathaven RFC so further training will also be provided as deemed appropriate by the club’s committee.

The position will be for a term of 2 years with financial reimbursement reviewed annually by the clubs committee and yourself with a mid-season performance review where your own personal performance as Club Coach and the senior squad’s performance will be jointly appraised.  

Whilst winning is unquestionably important to SRFC, so too is the manner in which our teams play and conducts themselves whether winning or losing. The club coach will be seen as a figurehead for the key values of respect, integrity, professionalism, discipline, achievement and enjoyment.
