What will the workshops cover for the girls?

·     The workshops are interactive and use a range of consultation tools to connect with the girls, identify their barriers to participation, explore their role models, identifying the skills and qualities they have as a group and prepare them for a between-sessions ‘takeaway task’. The aim is to encourage the girls to use the consultation methods and tools with other girls in their schools/clubs/communities.

·     The takeaway task is that the girls create a photo montage that tells their PEPAS ‘story’. They present this in part 2.

·     Part 2 workshop – uses the girls’ stories to recognise and celebrate the experiences and skills they bring with them. It reinforces the girls’ self-belief by celebrating these skills. The girls revisit the barriers discussed in part 1 and explore ideas and solutions to overcome the barriers girls are facing in sport and physical activity. The girls also begin to identify how they will consult with other girls locally and how they will continue to action plan (with their mentors) after the workshops to create positive change in their school, club and communities for other girls to start, maintain or return to sport and physical activity.

Is there any preparation to do ahead of the workshop?

·     Partner lead/mentors run their own introductory session with the girls before they attend the Fit for Girls workshops. This enables the girls to get to know each other and gain an insight into their potential role as local influencers/leaders.

Do the girls have any homework to do between workshops?

Yes, the girls are asked to create their own personal stories and be prepared to share their experiences in sport and physical activity in part 2. The girls can choose how they would like to share their personal stories, the tutors will share ideas and encourage the girls to be creative. Some examples include animation, poster, scrap book, video, Q and A.

Who should attend the girl leaders workshop?

·     Partner to identify a group of girl leaders or aspiring peer-leaders and influencers of other girls. Consider representation from across the local authority for example 2 x per high school or representation across clubs to form a girls committee or group.

·     The girls should be accompanied by an adult mentor (s) who will support the girls before and after the workshops.

Who should attend the workforce workshop?

Practitioners working across the school, club, and community environments. The workshop is designed to have maximum impact on cross-team representatives from the local and national partners.

How long do the workshops last?

·     2 x 2 hours for the girls workshops (part 1 and part 2) with the option for a further 1 x 2-hour workshop to support the girls to lead the delivery of a practitioner workshop

·     There is an option for a 1 x 2hr condensed workshop

·     4 hours for practitioner workshop

When can the workshops take place?

·     This can be agreed locally. Workshops can be organised as part of existing CPD dates, as twilight sessions and as morning or afternoon sessions. The programme aims at being as flexible as possible to meet partner’s needs. Please indicate your preference for dates on the registration form register for workshop

·     Workshops can be delivered in person or online

How long between each workshop?

We advise at least one month between the workshops for the girls and the workshop for the PEPAS network takes place at least 6 months after the second workshop for the girls.

Who delivers the workshops?

We have a team of young women who are Fit for Girls Tutors and will deliver the workshops to the girls and for the practitioner workshops will support local girls who have participated in the Fit for Girls workshops. Include link to bios

What space and or equipment is required for the workshops?

We require an open space to break out into discussion groups and for the tutors to deliver interactive activities. We have a few slides we would like to share, and a couple of films so require access to a projector and sound. A classroom, sports hall, meeting room is fine for the workshops to be held.
